I love working at
ETDS. One of the perks of the job is that you get two paid days off a year called
Floating Holidays. The only catch is you must ask for the day off at least eight days in advance. Over a month ago I asked to be off today and was told no. There was no explanation just a curt, "You can't have the day off." No problem, I enjoy being out by the lake and I like my customers.
This morning I got up, practiced a little banjo and guitar, headed to work listening to Roy Book Binder's
versions of Hunkie Tunkie Blues and Keep it Clean. I walked into the center and when I looked for my
DIAD Board it wasn't there. I went to my immediate supervisor and he seemed surprised to see me.. He said I had the day off. I reminded him that I was told I couldn't have it off. He explained that I was to call because giving me the day off was important if it could be done. I was then offered the option to work or go home. I decided to head on home while I had the chance.
My father-in-law is in the hospital and this will make it a lot easier to bring him home. Life has been very complex lately but I expect things to wind down soon.
