Moving Memories

posted Monday, 18 September 2006

Moving to a new house forced me to go through boxes and boxes of junk.  Due to my hobby of genealogy I have become the family historian.  The family have been giving me photographs and movies that I never found the time to sort out.
Going through one of the boxes I found many pictures of my sister Debbie who died back in 1998.  One picture shows the four oldest children holding the baby triplets.  Debbie is the oldest on the right.

All seven kids with the newborn triplets
I really enjoyed talking to my sister.  She was very quick-witted and had a quirky sense of humor.  She was fifteen years older than the triplets and always seemed bemused by them.  I remember one family picnic; The whole family was sitting around a campfire and the topic of our odd family came up and Debbie started talking.
Debbie:  People at work are surprised when I tell them I have six brothers.
One of the triplets: Six?  How come you have six brothers and I only have five?
Everyone started shaking their heads in quasi disbelief.
One of the triplets: Hey!  There is no such thing as a stupid question!
Upon hearing that my mother stood up, shook her head, lit a cigarette and said, "Leave it to you to ruin a perfectly good aphorism."
