About a month ago my father-in-law decided to move out to the country to be nearer to us. It was a great idea as I look forward to being around him more. At first he looked at houses going up for
Sheriff's Sales but eventually decided to buy a new house in a development a few miles from our current house. As we looked at the houses The Wife suggested that we buy the house next

door. I said, "Sure" in my normal condescending way and let her dream.
A couple weeks later he bought his house and I called around to friends and family to get help moving him in. As usual they are a smart bunch and evaporated like the sweat on my neck in this horrible heat. My youngest brother Devlyn showed up as did my buddy Dale. I don't know how we could have done it without them. My father-in-law's furniture is made of real wood, unlike mine, and was very heavy. My wife packs much heavier than I would like and many of the boxes felt like a body was inside. I was tempted to wear my delivery uniform and at one point I told the wife that I would file a grievance if she didn't lighten up on me.
It was incredibly hot the day of the move and at one point Dale looked at me and said, "Don't be calling me for a long time!" I waited for the smile but none was coming. Luckily my daughter's friends came by and worked hard. We also had another family (friends of The Wife) and the kids worked hard. The mother is a firecracker and kept everyone working like a drill sergent.
Once my father-in-law was in The Wife took the idea of our new house seriously. She talked to the builder nearly every day and he made some minor changes in the house he was buiding. When I saw how important it was to her I had to agree, it would be a good change. The house we have been in is at least 130 years old and needs work. Once we are out we can really fix it up and either rent it out or sell it. I'll be fifty next month and this will be a nice transition into middle age.
My daughter didn't take to the idea of change very well. As we drove through the devlopment she saw the street signs, Bobcat Drive, Grey Wolf Drive, and Black Bear Run. All she would say was, "These names are so gay!" It took a couple weeks but I think she is coming around.
There is a lot to write about; a great deal has happened while I haven't been writing. I will catch up soon.
