My father-in-law is a great guy. He's helped me explore music and taken me in directions that I never expected. One of those ways is the mandolin. He plays one, a pre-war Martin mandolin that he won in a card game back in World War II. He also plays one that his uncle,
James Docy made. I like the sound of the
Docy Mandolins and every once in a while see them on Ebay. Here is a nice one that I saw recently on the web.

Last night I was chatting with a friend of mine in England and I mentioned that I was thinking of buying a mandolin. He's a fine musician and knows more about most things than I'll ever know. He said that with my style of play on other instruments there was only one I should buy. Here it is.

The Commodium
I'm tempted to buy one just to take to festivals. It sure would get a reaction or two. I especially like the tailpiece, a fork.
