I've been getting a lot of emails asking where I've been and why I haven't been updating the blog. Hopefully this entry will explain a few things.

A few months ago I got a banjo (
Deering Goodtime II) and I'm truly shocked at how fast I'm picking it up. I can only assume my previous experience fingerpicking the guitar in the styles of
Mississippi John Hurt and
Dave Van Ronk prepared me for it. In the short time I've been playing I've already picked up the songs,
Banjo in the Hollow, Cripple Creek, Cumberland Gap and I'm currently working on
Foggy Mountain Breakdown including the high break! As I'm sure you can tell it is very exciting for me. I'm very curious to see how far I can take this.
Work has been hard. I came back to work in January after hernia surgery and it took a long time to get my strength and stamina back. Spring was very wet and unseasonably cold. Then summer hit with a vengeance with temperatures around 90 with high humidity. Due to vacation schedules hours were increased and I seldom got off work before 8 pm. The long hours combined with the heat and humidity knocked the wind out of me and the vacation that I'm currently ending has helped restore me.
I have a lot to write about and will do so soon.
