Acronyms

posted Thursday, 1 January 1998

In my job and sometimes in normal life acronyms are used.  I'll place them here and update them when needed.

DIAD - Delivery Information Aquisition Device: This is the electronic clipboard that ETDS uses to scan packages and keep track of info.

DIVA - Delivery Information Vehicle Adapter: This is the part in the truck that the DIAD plugs into the truck that I drive.

ETDS - Earth-Toned Delivery Service: This is where I work as a delivery driver. Remember their motto, 'What can earth-tones do for you?'

GAS - Guitar Aquisition Syndrome: Where you want more and more guitars.  The wife says I shouldn't have more guitars than songs that I can play.

TAW - Temporary Assigned Work:  Instead of doing my job I'm assigned to something more applicable to my diminished abilities.

Wi-Fi - Short for wireless fidelity This is another name for IEEE 802.11b. It is a trade term promulgated by the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA). "Wi-Fi" is used in place of 802.11b in the same way that "Ethernet" is used in place of IEEE 802.3. Products certified as Wi-Fi by WECA are interoperable with each other even if they are from different manufacturers. A user with a Wi-Fi product can use any brand of Access Point with any other brand of client hardware that is built to the Wi-Fi standard.
