It's too soon to write about the recent elections but I will soon enough. In the meantime I'd like to talk about the recent vote to ban gay marriage in Ohio.
It was banned overwhelmingly and I don't understand it. Perhaps because I wasn't indoctrinated into the Christian faith as a child I don't have built-in biases. I don't see how allowing two people who love and are committed to each other to marry can be a bad thing. Politicians who say we must protect marriage confuse me. How does denying someone civil liberties protect me. How can my marriage be diluted by someone I don't know having the same rights that I enjoy with my wife.
In my job as a delivery driver I meet a lot of people. Many if not most are Christians who speak of it proudly. I always thought Jesus taught tolerance and inclusiveness. Like I said, I don't understand it. The people I deliver to are in bad shape financially. Many are out of work with jobs being sent overseas. Many have retired but lost their health care and part of their pensions. Many have family that are in the war. Many I spoke to said they were going to vote for Bush because of his moral leadership. I just shake my head.
